Free UMAT Resource Material Course Package

So you heard that you can beat the UMAT test set by ACER by self-indulging in literature and possible consideration of purchasing a course package available online for possibly up to half of $AUD1000. Like me, you have probably spent a ridiculous amount of pursuing this goal. Like me, some of you may have made it; others have to do it again to perform better.

When I started out everything was just wonderful! - the grasses were green, school was always better at the other side without the responsibilities and I was going to succeed in UMAT so long as I purchased a course package available online and follow the instructions/guidance - magically the UMAT preparation process will start improving day in day out. Naturally, I purchased not just one but two course packages (English was clearly not my first language) in hope of succeeding - spent about $700 - don't remember now and quickly learnt that the most important thing the package keeps reminding us is to read real fast and absorb all details as much as possible.

So I set back taking in all these new materials/trial questions from these “UMAT” companies. This was the ever popular method of succeeding in a UMAT test with NO PRACTICE claimed by our friend ACER - because health professionals succeed in life with no practice I guess!? (Sarcasm intended). The workshops option offered through the purchase of a UMAT course package – upon attending we were constantly reminded that we the students are better off than the other students of 80% over (by which it showed how they view us: as their income.. Why? Because you can succeed in UMAT without paying!!). I went through the workshop and felt like - "well, that was good but I could've learnt more, especially spending a full day at this place!!" Apparently workshops are the best thing students should grab because of the feedbacks and interactivity that enables you to learn more, hence it is priced the most on most course-offering websites. However the workshop pace of UMAT study goes at the cohort level – not your level and so some may be restricted the learning process. The problem seemed that nobody has bothered to teach you the how to bring out understanding and attacking the questions of the UMAT test as accurately as possible.

Boo.. what gives. This was meant to be a paid-package-sure-succeed UMAT program - after all, I paid alot of money. Well not being the type of loser who gives up I decided to spend more time in pursuing the success of the UMAT test whilst studying at the same time. (For all of students, repeating Year 12 if possible is a good option; not to be ruled out, more on this later).

I'll be talking through some potential questions for the UMAT, what actually happens at interviews, what sort of preparation would you require to prepare for each section. Should you just believe in the ACER's UMAT booklet and so on.

The UMAT looks challenging at first but it's not really the be-all-and-the-end-all. Sometimes you meet lots of people that get fantastic UMAT scores - nothing to do with their innate genius but their willingness to work hard to achieve their goals. There are others who DO achieve awesome UMAT scores for the sake of it and pursue another career, so to speak this helps increases your chances of getting an interview so don’t let the figures daunt you! Confidence is the key. I know friends with crazy UMAT STORIES to share - one guy that didn't make it to medicine first 3 years after finishing his Year 12 studies, and he's an absolute genius! We’ll get to that as well.
